Right in the middle of her workday someone needed something from her again.
A call she did not feel like taking. A favor she did not have the bandwidth for. A conversation she could feel pulling her out of the calm she had finally found this morning. And the old version of her would have said yes immediately and figured out how to survive it later.
But she has learned something this year. Peace is not something you find once and keep forever. It is something you protect daily, sometimes hourly, sometimes minute by minute.

That word guard is not passive. A guard stands at the gate. A guard decides what gets in and what does not. Your peace deserves a guard too, and that guard is you.
You do not owe anyone an explanation for protecting it. You do not have to justify why you said no to the call, why you stepped away from the conversation, why you closed your laptop ten minutes early today. Protecting your peace is not selfish. It is stewardship.
Whatever is trying to get past your gate this afternoon, you have permission to say, “Not today.”
”Lord guard my heart and mind today like You promised. Help me recognize what is trying to steal my peace before it gets all the way in. Give me the courage to protect what You have given me without feeling guilty for doing it. My peace is sacred because You made it that way. Help me treat it like it is. Amen.
