”Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
MATTHEW 5:9
Can I be honest with you for a minute?
For a long time, I thought being a peacemaker meant keeping quiet. Smoothing things over. Not rocking the boat. Swallowing my truth so everyone else could be comfortable.
I thought being the peacemaker meant always giving in.
I was wrong.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.”
Matthew 5:9
Jesus was not talking about the women who go silent to keep the room calm. He was not talking about the ones who absorb everyone else’s chaos and call it grace. He was not describing the woman who shrinks herself so nobody gets upset.
A peacemaker in the biblical sense is someone who moves TOWARD healing. Not away from truth. Not away from hard conversations. Toward actual repair.
That is a completely different thing.
A peacemaker listens. She tells the truth gently but fully. She refuses to spread division and gossip. She works toward restored relationships, not just restored quiet.
And here is what nobody tells you.
Real peacemaking is sometimes costly. It costs you the comfort of staying silent when something needs to be said. It costs you the false peace of pretending everything is fine when it is not. It costs you the approval of people who preferred the version of you that never said anything.
But it looks like God.
Because God is the ultimate peacemaker. He did not just ignore the division between us and Him. He moved toward us. He sent His Son. He did the costly, active, redemptive work of making real peace.
And when you live that way, when you move toward healing instead of just silence, when you tell the truth in love instead of swallowing it, when you set a boundary because you want the relationship to actually be healthy, they will call you a child of God.
Not a troublemaker.
Not difficult.
Not too much.
A child of God.
So today let me ask you this.
Where have you been calling silence peace?
Where have you been calling avoidance grace?
Where have you been shrinking instead of moving toward healing?
You were not made to keep a false peace.
You were made to make a real one.
Blessed are the peacemakers.
That is you.
Walking in truth.
Moving toward wholeness.
Reflecting God.
”Lord thank You for being the ultimate peacemaker. Thank You for not staying distant but moving toward us at great cost. Teach me to do the same. Give me the courage to move toward healing instead of just quiet. Give me the wisdom to speak truth gently and the strength to do the costly work of real peace. Help me to reflect You in every relationship I carry. Amen.
Where in your life have you been mistaking silence for peace and avoidance for grace?
Is there a relationship where real peace requires a hard but honest conversation?
What would it look like to be a peacemaker in your business, your home or your closest relationships this week?
”I am a peacemaker not a people pleaser.
I move toward healing not just silence.
I tell the truth in love.
I set boundaries because I want real peace not fake calm.
I reflect the character of God.
